School Meals for 2022-23

School Meals for 2022-23
Posted on 05/23/2022

A Message to Jeffco Public Schools Families and Staff

During the last two years, Jeffco Public Schools has been able to provide free, nutritious meals to our students due to the USDA waivers associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, waivers have not been extended and we will return to a more traditional service for the 2022-23 school year.

What does this mean for families for the 2022-23 school year?

  • Meals will no longer be free for all students.
  • Beginning July 1, families need to take action by completing a free and reduced meal application on School Café.
    • We encourage families to complete the application online. The district will communicate to families when the online applications are available starting July 1.
    • If needed, paper applications are also available at your student's school or the Food & Nutrition Services Office located at 809 Quail St., Building 1, Lakewood.
    • Questions about Free and Reduced Lunch? Contact a Free and Reduced Lunch Specialist at 303-982-6916 or [email protected].

What will meal prices be in the 2022-23 school year?

  • Meal prices for the 2022-23 school year will remain the same as prior to COVID-19. They are as follows:
    • Elementary Breakfast: $2.00
    • Secondary Breakfast: $2.25
    • Elementary Lunch: $3.25
    • Secondary Lunch: $3.50
    • Adult Lunch: $4.25
    • Milk Only: $0.85

Why did meal prices not increase for the 2022-23 school year?

  • Despite inflation and the rising cost of food, Jeffco Public Schools has set aside resources and is committed to keeping the cost of school meals flat for the 2022-23 school year while supporting our families with the transition back to a traditional meal service. Meal prices will be the same they were in the 2019-20 school year.
    • As we look further ahead to the 2023-24 school year, we anticipate an increase in the cost of school meals as a result of continued fair market food prices and inflation. We will communicate with families next school year, so we can partner and plan together for any anticipated increases in meal price for the 2023-24 school year.

What about free meals for students this summer?

  • Students ages 1-18 can still receive free summer meals. Summer meals will be available from June 6 - July 15 (no meal service on July 4) including breakfast from 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and lunch served from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the following school sites:
    • Foothills Elementary School
    • Kullerstrand Elementary School
    • Lawrence Elementary School
    • Lumberg Elementary School
    • Rose Stein Elementary School
    • Welchester Elementary School

Note: If you have questions about meal service, please call your child’s school. Families are entitled to language interpretation services at no cost, so you can ask your school to add an over-the-phone interpreter to the call.
